Advert board on roof of a PH car.. why?
I have seen a private hire car with an advertising board attached on it's roof, is this a new development to get better recognition for Private Hire cars so they can be flagged down easier?

Re: Advert board on roof of a PH car.. why?
To answer this no, It is allowing Private hire drivers to earn from advertising as Hackney drivers have had this priveage to themselves for over 30 years, adverts are allowed on all licence vehicles with written consent, there is nothing in the policy that says the roof signs are not allowed. As Sheffield has a strict specification policy on what vehicles can be used as Hackney Carriage I cannot see how these make the vehicle look like a hackney carriage, I can see the argument in other cities that allow saloon vehicles as Hackney Carrriages but we do not have that in Sheffield.
The driver is the person repsonsible if they stop for a flag down as and they know the consquences when they are caught.

Re: Advert board on roof of a PH car.. why?
Thanks for the reply but I still disagree on the issue that on equal terms PH can put advertising stickers on their cars just as cabs do. Can we assume then that cabs drivers can also stick boards on roof of their taxis or does equality not stretch that far? You know from experience that if a car can be identified as a taxi from some distance then chances of being flagged down are greater and PH drivers will pick up regardless of the Law, especially with extremely slim chance of being prosecuted.

Hackney Carriages are included in the rooftop adverts if they require, the company who supply them have got them on hackney's in other cities if you wish to email - taxi.licenisng@sheffield.gov,uk i can send you the company details.
On the flagging side of things most of the people i witness just flag anything that is approaching them police, cars ambulance, taxi licensing officers, As you know we will prosecute and refer to Board anybody we get evidence on that illegally ply's for hire.
I hope this answer your questions
