A TEENAGER has died after he was hit by a taxi.
It is understood that Scott Kenneth Howatson, 19, of Torrington Street, Heywood, was struck by the private hire taxi, a black Volkswagon Passat, on the road.
Police and ambulance crews were called to Manchester Road's junction with Ormerod Street in Heywood at 10.30pm last night. Police said Scott was taken to Fairfield Hospital in Bury but later pronounced dead.
A spokesman said the taxi driver stopped a short distance up the road and called police. He added: "The driver has been interviewed by police. Inquiries are continuing."
