Taxi driver hunted by police

A TAXI driver whose passenger suffered life-threatening head injuries when he fell from the vehicle is still being hunted by police.

Officers are re-appealing for information about the driver from Chesterfield, who allegedly drove off after dropping passengers while a rear door was still open.
A 19-year-old man who was still in the back fell out and hit his head on the road. The
driver, an Asian man in his 40s with a beard and glasses, did not stop.

The injured man remains in hospital following the incident at 4.05am at the White Lane junction with BriarField Road, near Gleadless Post Office, Sheffield.

The driver would not of driven off.

Not really a laughing matter but I'm sure we can all identify with a situation where a passenger leaps out of cab instead of paying the fare. I would however expect anyone who has nothing to hide to come forward and clear his own name by putting his side of the story. I can't imagine a situation where the driver would be unaware of a passenger falling out of his cab TBH.

We have no reason to assume anything other than a tragic accident which has left an individual severely injured, so without evidence lets not speculate on this please gents.

I understand he's OK (but not) you'll understand.

The 'cab' concerned was a chesterfield cab. from what i've heard and this is 3rd/4th hand so hearsay/rumour is:

They go out in Chesterfield regually, and the fare home is £20-£25, this driver wanted £30 up front, which they gave him no problem on the agreement that he would give them £5 back. When they reached Gleadless Town End the driver said "thats your £30 now get out" obviously the usual arguement erupted (we've all been there).

As the last one was getting out the driver set off (I'm presuming the cab was a Euro) the sliding door came to shut as the he was getting out and then he fell out of the cab.

As we all know the junction at Gleadless town end is one way, so turning right at the lights (from Norton) he stopped opposite the S'burys ands then set off back thro' the one way system.

Thing is WE all get tarred with the same brush "TAXI DRIVERS".

hope he makes a full recovery and IF someone doe's know who was the driver PLEASE PLEASE come forward and tell the police. They may be family or come from 'the area' but and this is a big but, if we don't talk/help the police then why (and we've all had to ring them at sometime or go to a station) should they "help us".

My thinking is (I know people will know who I am with this) if we do know something then tell them!!!! (council or police), then they'll help us get rid of the s*** who pretend to be drivers and ruin our reputation.

It's bad enough out there without all the extra.

Keep smiling

I think some may have got upset by my comment above, if so I apologise for being insensitive. Welcome to the forum sheffdriver, good post, you make a valid point, if anyone does have any info on this then I hope they do the right thing. We don't need people such as this in our trade here in Sheffield or anywhere else for that matter.

Well said sheffdriver. You gave away your identity by the use of your language, I'm glad you kept your promise to join us, so welcome to the forum once again now that I know who you are Laughing
