Cabbie’s defence

Mar 17 2008 by Dawn Collinson, Liverpool Echo

REGARDING Mrs V. Walsh’s recent letter about rip-off taxi drivers: I am fed up with people slagging them off.

My husband has been a cabby for seven years and has never ripped off any one, even with the rubbish he puts up with – like people burning his seats when they smoke, despite the no-smoking signs in his cab. Also throwing up in his cab and even spitting out chewing gum on the carpeted floor, which takes time and money to sort out; refusing to pay the £1 toll at the airport; or people getting to their destination and not paying as they don’t have enough money.

Daytime cabbies are wonderful and polite and I wouldn’t mind being greeted by any of these guys who work hard for a living.

If your friends rang from the hotel, ring the firm as they will have a record of who picked them up.

Try to put yourself in the place of a cab driver and see if you like it. All cabbies are not the same.
