Thanks sheffph that is a an eye opener, I thought TX4s were the bees knees but this suggests otherwise. Oh well didn't want one anyway

FAULTS EXPEIENCED BY ME OR REPORTED TO ME BY MANY OTHER OWNERS

Faults with a ** are what I have suffered on my cab most from day one :

SEVERE crunch when selecting park,comparable with gear selection on a manual car forgetting the clutch ! **

VIOLENT selection and deselection of Drive Reverse and Park gears (Violent mechanical Crunch),violent to the point of knocking passengers off thier feet! (KPM description "It`s an aggressive gearbox") **

HEADLAMPS melting and burning in the centre **
(2 x headlamps fitted)

FRONT WINDOWS ** sticking, causing cut out to trip (Safety device to prevent injury in a normal vehicle !)

FAULTY heater valve, **heat enters cab through vents despite being fully turned off.This has been a problem on the TX1 TXII and now the TX4,so much for the "new air blend system"Feel sorry for those without air con ! on that subject see below;

AIR CONDITIONING, **ineffective,works for a short period then stops,will only restart (If your lucky)by turning control off for a period.When it stops working the windows mist up instantly !

EGR valve failure ** (New valve fitted,now faulty again, makes a noise like an Elephant with severe wind when turning engine off)

TURBO INTERCOOLER pipe failure ** Hence the picture of being recovered by RAC on home page.
Reported as a very common problem.

10th November ,just had a report from a TX4 owner that he has suffered this failure 10 times! and lost 10 days work because of it !

WATER leaks **

OIL leaks

EXCESSIVE tyre wear,reported to be mis-aligned steering/rear wheel geometery

RACING IDLE SPEED ** Engine idle speed increase dramatically when very hot.

OVERHEATING ** (New radiator fitted 6.5 hours in the waiting room at KPM)

REAR AXLE PROBLEMS

REAR AXLE Whining/droning **

SEVERE vibration through cab at speed **

ABS warning lights flashing on/off **

SUSPENSION KNOCKS/RATTLES **

DISC PADS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO BE WEARING OUT IN 6000 MILES ! mine have covered 14000 so far.

BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL VERY EXCESSIVE,PEDAL ON THE FLOOR UNDER HARD BRAKING **

BRAKING EFFICIENCY DANGEROUS **

REAR door seals falling off **

ALL doors,poor closure **

EXHAUST knocking on underbody **

PROPSHAFT knocking,centre bearing fault **

At least 2 tx4s have had their radiators changed at mabs garage he says the rads are a crap manufacture.
I wont be rushing to buy one I'll wait till they have seen to the initial faults and upgraded them.
At least with the tx2 everybody is aware of it's faults now and know what to expect.

My mate Andy in bassetlaw has had his back 5 times(its only done 11000 mls),it has difficulty changing auto gears when engine is hot.
Ooops, I really am going to stick for a while!.

I've been visiting this site just out of curiosity and also discussion on taxi drivers on line website and this fella is going through hell to prove tx4 is crap. Taking on a manufacturer who has taxi magazines in their pocket because of advertising and a virtual momopoly is proving difficult for this driver. The taxi trade is the cheap testing ground for LTI and any mistakes that come to light are then corrected so if you don't buy one ray, how are we going to get that perfect vehicle later?

The TX4 has a gearbox which is same as used in the Jeep Cherokee of Chrysler fame. Here is a link to an American site with complaints about that gearbox etc. Have a nosy http://daimlerchryslervehicleproblems.com/
