City Road Clubs
Hi everyone, hope everyone who reads and post's is keeping well and is (reasonably) happy
I've been speaking to some of the 'lads' on PH, and they're are getting complaints/grief from the clients outside the clubs as no one will stop and pick them up anymore (keep up the good work licensing ).
Now just a thought and it'll not take a lot of organising, as the clubs clients (well 90%) go home after the bingo and it's a quiet time in town, why don't we go up on mass and rank up outside?
this may (or not) help the situation and hopefully get us some work? surely it'll be cheaper than driving around wasting diesel/time?
It's an idea.

Re: City Road Clubs
So many have tried to do that before and were disheartened by being snubbed by the customers who would walk past the cabs to get in the waiting cars at the back. It was that sort of thing that lead to drivers not bothering to back up there. We used to park on City Road before the trams lines were put in, but all changed with the tram route in place and parking restrictions. City cars taxi firm being on City Road had cars there anyway so cab drivers stopped bothering. Now that licensing have had some effect maybe it is time for cabs to make a return and provide the service that they should have been anyway to outlying areas of Sheffield. That can be Woodseats as well as Manor Top and even Centertainment, Meadowhall retail park (where Express are having a field day) to name a few.

It's the first time I've heard of a black cab driver saying something that means business. Good luck to you lads.

Re: City Road Clubs
People people, if we mass ranked outside we are either on double yellow or on the tram line.
If not police would move us on as locals would complain..
If someone one has thought of something someone else has already thought of it before!!!!
When something is good us Hackney drivers always spoil it!!!!

After a few years watching this shower Hypester you will come to the same conclusion most of us already have, there is no point in asking these guys to do anything that involves working together. They simply cannot.

Re: City Road Clubs
Hi everyone,
as hypester states yes we would be blocking the tram tracks outside the clubs if we ranked up for a while. I went up over weekend and did get a couple of jobs (not as many flag downs as the maroon Network Avensis we ALL see around).
I asked the people why they didn't get hackney's and the reply was "your too exspensive" to which I put them right regarding the pricing structure and the fares haven't gone up for over a year except for the old 50p petrol duty. They were surprised and even at end of journey the metered fare was only 20p more than what they pay for an UN-BOOKED private hire. In my generousity I explained about UN-BOOKED = NO INSURANCE so 20p wasn't that bad a deal.
Could the 'brotherhood' put some kind of press release out or get the licensing to put something out regarding the diference in fares??
This might help when going up to the clubs and other outlying areas (Chapletown, Mosboro' Woodseats etc).
And in reply to Ahmed, occasionally (and yes it is a rare occurance i agree) but we do and we do get something done for ALL in the trade to benefit from. But the etiquate has all but disappeared in the hackney trade and people do queue jump and pick up others flag downs (just go to hillsborough and see it in action when driving up and down langsett road) but that's my pet hate.
Have fun and keep smiling.
