If our Council sold cctv equipment for cabs would you buy it from them, I no other towns do this and wonder if it is something this Council may consider in the light of the current climate and peoples spending power at the moment may be they could look at a leasing scheme but would you trust the Council issuing the equipement or would you not buy from them? Cool

There wasn't all that much interest once they found out the price the last time cameras were mentioned. I don't think council can compete against ebay.

I think the latest news of a racist getting jailed because of evidence from a mobile phone recording shows importance of such a proof, but also brings into question why someone would spend around £600 when almost everyone already has a phone that could do the same job.

You must remember then whilst the rant at you is taking place, you must pull over, turn the engine of before you use your mobile phone to film him/her. Or face a hefty fine for using a mobile phone whilst driving.

Maybe with advances in technology the rules on what can and cannot be installed should be looked at again, and not have stringent and potentially unenforceable rules concerning cameras in taxis. The police and the courts should be the ones advising on what constitutes valid evidence, and not some appointed so called advisers of the council keeping themselves busy writing reports. These people have thus far taken a rather dim view character of taxi drivers as untrustworthy people. So much for "Fit and propper"? £600 price tag is prohibitive and even more so now than ever before.

Has council got any plans for selling these units and how much would they be if they decide yes?
