Many parents have been heard to complain that their offspring treat them as a taxi service.
Now they have the research to back them up.
Parents drive on average 1,664 miles a year chauffeuring their children - slightly longer than the journey from London to Istanbul.
This is at a cost of nearly £3,000 - with a total travel time of six and a half days, says the survey by AA Insurance published today.
The survey of 1,237 parents found that the school run was not the main cause of clocking up the miles but rather children's busy social lives.

Requests for a lift were due to a variety of reasons, encompassing visits to friends' houses, sports activities and trips to shopping centres.
One in five parents was found to clock up 2,100 miles per year ferrying around their children - and those of other parents.
AA Insurance calculated that this cost £3,729, based on the average cost of a ten-mile journey being £17.03.
The company has launched an online calculator to calculate "parent taxi fares".
It is accessible at www.parentstaximeter.co.uk.
The AA warns parents that providing this "taxi service" is not without hazards.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said that over-familiarity with local roads can lead to complacency on the part of motorists.
He said a third of all accident insurance claims were due to collisions in urban areas, close to junctions and within a mile of home, often because of over-familiarity with routes.
Urging parents to check they have good, up-to-date insurance cover, Mr Douglas added: "Even for a fiveminute journey it's vital to make sure children are properly belted up and safe and don't be tempted to take more in the car than there are seats.
"It may be a short trip but there are no short cuts when it comes to safety.
"Most parents accept that being a chauffeur is part of their parental job description.
"But our research proves they really go that extra mile to ensure their children can get around.
"With the car at the centre of family life, it is vital that parents make sure they are properly protecting their most precious cargo."
