Charity run to the seaside paid by the rest of the trade?
Any merrit in you lads collecting a fund accross the trade enough to send about ten cabs full of disabled kids to the seaside, as a public relation excersise?
They do it on a much bigger scale in London (this year they went to Disney world Paris) and being part of the community taxi service can be seen to take part in the life of the community. Think about it

I am told that there used to be something like this as a yearly event, but seems to have been lost as a tradition. Seems like a good idea but who will volunteer to organise something like this?

my regards everyone as its my first post.
I should say no to that Zee as if you volanteer to go you would probably get
max no. of passengers to carry mainly being the disabeld or the poorly.,although all your fuel should come out of our fund.

As some drivers have large families, it would be an incentive to take one of our own children, and also children will learn that there is a broader range of community where they are from.

Those of us that belonge to the union can ask them for fuel money from the nice pot we have got building up ,although i dare say they wont volunteer to take the trip themself execpt for a photo for publicity of course.

We agree Zee that this would enhance our profile with the general public but can we get this message through to our drivers? It would be a good think if someone can step forward and organise an event like this.Zee wrote:If it does goes ahead, then you will see how black cab drivers a portrayed by the public !

I don't want to speak out of turn but waht is it that the taxi trade is different today to expect to be treated differently by the travelling public?
The last few days no doubt have been better than average for the normal drivers but excellent for the robbing B*****ds amongst our trade who never miss an opportunity to overcharge the public. The rest of the trade get a bad name and people actually avoid having to take a cab unless they have no other choice, and it's people amongst us who are spoiling our trade.

Ahmed brother, you ask what is different today. Have you seen the amount of 'kerb crawlers'. Third world tactics are now being used to lure customers. These drivers have no idea of what customer service is, and more than likely, its these sort of characters who rip customers off. Next time your out when its quiet, see for yourself

Re: Charity run to the seaside paid by the rest of the trade?
I have seen it done Zee and once even became a victim too.(that is another story)
If a threat of licence being revoked was real then many of these problems will disappear. The Licensing people need to take an active role with those of us who wish to improve the trade to weed out the scum bags from our midst.
Ahmed, I appreciate you feel strongly about such issues but please try without the bad language, it just pulls the standards down for everybody.
Now, may I suggest going back on topic please with who is going to organise the trip. Aftab mentioned Mr MA as having some clout with STTA so maybe we have someone who can twist arms of the committee

Re: Charity run to the seaside paid by the rest of the trade?
It was merely a question I asked wheather there was any merrit in running a campaign to get the people of Sheffield on the side of black cabs as part of their community? Nothing fixed yet at all. in fact it may help if your friends or as you called them boys in STTA can be perusuaded to take the lead on this.

Re: Charity run to the seaside paid by the rest of the trade?
I hope we see xfairway back on here again, because if he is anything like the rest of STTA chums they come on one day post a few bits and then like our brother Shakil they dare not come back on here. Maybe someone is telling them not to talk to strangers without permission from higher authority.

Once we get this thing off the ground could use the Barkers Pool taxi shelter stand for advertising, or the stand alone advert stand just outside Nationwide bank. Some of the cabs could carry advertising regarding the event.

Re: Charity run to the seaside paid by the rest of the trade?
This is exactly why we need the STTA committee to be on here discussing this stuff. You have made some valid points Zee and it's a good idea to pool ideas that can then be debated openly.

Re: Charity run to the seaside paid by the rest of the trade?
This is going to be a big problem, even getting the idea into drivers head. Don't forget they will miss a days work, and miss out on the latest gossip. THE SHEFFIELD MAGICAL TAXI TOUR

Re: Charity run to the seaside paid by the rest of the trade?
It may have helped if you had gone to School and we could make head or tail of what you write. The idea isn't stupid and it's not about charity at all but an excercise in promoting the image of the taxi trade in the publics' mind. If by doing this sort of thing, nothing to do with religion but an advert of the black cab trade as a positive force and part of the local community.
