About this service

The Council operates a policy of controlled expansion in respect of the issue of Hackney Carriage vehicles in Manchester. We currently issue 30 licences per year, plus any additional licences as may be recommended by an independent survey conducted every 3 years. Licences are granted to applicants based on the following criteria:
Length of service as a Hackney Carriage driver in Manchester
Record as a driver and individual
Ability to finance the provision of a Hackney Carriage vehicle

Hackney Carriage vehicles applying to be licensed must be London Style taxis, that are fully wheelchair accessible and less than 12 years old.

In person: The public counter is in the Town Hall Extension. The counter is open 8.45am - 4pm Monday to Friday (Wednesday opens at 10am).
