I don't believe it is a requirement by the SCC yet, so no need to worry but many agree with principle of training though.

The NVQ is not a legal requirement and is funded by government grants to these firms that are running around trying to get drivers to sign up. There ploy is to state that the Chief Licensing Officer is to make this compulsory for all drivers and that teh funding is to run out by 2009, and then it will cost over 1200 each. This is all twaddle I have it on good authority from the horses mouth as they say that there was a policy to go to Licensing Board in August but this was pulled as the Cllrs wanted further in depth reasearch and consultation. IN that policy there is no recomendations to make any training compulsory, Ihave spoken personally to Mr Stephenson and he ahs stated that the report carries no recomendations from licensing officers to introduce any compulsory training above what is already in place before a licence is issued. What has been said is that training will be discussed by teh Licensing Board (now October) and the Licensing Board can issue a policy ruling in anyway the deem as reasonable, so they may make it compulsory? but it is a may and the trades will be allowed there say on it, they may introduce this training for new drivers only, they may not do anything and let drivers decided if they want to get training or not. Hope this spreads a bit o light on the matter. There are too many rumours around about this.

I'd like to welcome our newest member, taxitrainer. The name would be suggestive and maybe Mr taxitrainer would like to add a comment on this issue?

After what vulcan said, maybe no surprise that taxitrainer hasn't all that much to say Laughing
