GRANTS are being offered so Liverpool taxis can be fitted with CCTV.

Liverpool’s Business Crime Direct team is relaunching the CCTV fund for Liverpool cabbies in light of recent success.

It is prepared to reimburse cabbies with 50% of the cost incurred from installing a standard CCTV system, up to �700.

I have heard around that the Topic of a Survey about black cabs has been raised in the open Cabinet meeting of the new Lib Dem cabinet. I was told that the Survey according to the minutes of Jan 08 meeting was to be done again by February 09. It was raised I believe at Cabinet that this be changed, and some pointed out that the Lib Dem motion at the original meeting of the full council in January 08 was not to have a survey until Feb 2010. At its meeting of 12th August the Licensing Board decided that the vehicle testing regime that we have in Sheffield will remain the same for the next 12 months at least. This means HCV will be tested 2 per year from 8 years onwards, and PHV will be tested 2 per year from 5 years onwards.

The council at the moment doesn't allow this type of vehicle but many councils do. The Scotcab people offered to take the deposit and challenge the city council policy through the courts, so interesting times ahead.
